Supervises:    

Primary Purpose: To assist in the implementation of students' IEPs.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

 

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Ability to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements: Associate's Degree, 48 Semester hours, or Academic Assessment.

 

            Special Knowledge Skills:

 

  • Some experience in working with young children.
  • Temperament to work with students having disabilities.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teacher(s), students and administrators.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

 

Experience:

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Exercise initiative in developing creative activities to supplement and reinforce learning.
  • Be very familiar with all materials kept in the classroom as well as those that are brought in various intervals.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping materials stored in proper places when not in use.
  • Be punctual.
  • Conduct group activity.
  • Aid in the construction of teaching aides and materials.
  • Be familiar with and able to operate audio-visual equipment.
  • Grade or assist in grading papers and recording scores.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping orderly files of each student's program.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing materials, e.g., laminating, thermos-fax, typing.
  • Be optimistic and cheerful when working with students.
  • Exercise firm but kind and consistent control of students' behavior, abiding by the teacher's policy.
  • Share the responsibility for decoration of the classroom.
  • Assist students in self-help needs such as diapering, feeding and positioning.
  • Assist the teacher in meeting the buses when the students arrive at school and as they leave.
  • Use appropriate lifting techniques.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the school principal, supervisor, or teacher.
  • Make home visits with the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher with classroom control emphasizing courtesy and good manners.
  • Accept the teachers as the authority in the classroom.
  • Be subject to transfer or reassignment.
  • Be subject to split teacher assignment.
  • Dress attractively and appropriately.
  • Ask for clarification of policies as necessary.
  • BE SUBJECT TO BUS MONITOR ASSIGNMENT.
  • Refer parental concerns or staff concerns to the teacher, principal or special education supervisor.
  • Interact with coworkers, parents, and students with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students' testing, diagnosis status and personal problems.
  • Attend and meet required district hours of staff development.
  • Assist with toileting needs including diapering when necessary.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Campus Principal.
