Job Title: Aide-Behavior Support                                                

 Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Supervises:     

Primary Purpose: To assist in the implementation of students IEP's-Individualized Educational Plan. This position requires the ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles. Incumbent must have knowledge of State, local and Federal laws and regulations affecting the lives and education of students. This position requires an understanding of child and adolescent development. Incumbent must have the skills to manage student behavior and must have the ability to communicate effectively, work with others as a team, organize and maintain records, manage time and resources effectively and efficiently

           

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

 

  • Associate's Degree, 48 Semester hours, or Academic Assessment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintain CPI Certification

 

 

            Special Knowledge Skills:

           

  • Temperament to work with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teacher(s), students and administrators.

 

Experience:

 

  • Prefer experience in working with children with all disabilities.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Exercise initiative in developing creative activities to supplement and reinforce learning.
  • Assist the children in transferring to and from different locations, as needed.
  • Assist students in self-help needs such as: toileting, diapering, feeding and positioning.
  • Assist the children with coats and other articles of clothing which cannot be handled by children with disabilities.
  • Assist the teacher in creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
  • Assist the teacher in material and room maintenance.
  • Be familiar with all materials kept in classroom as well as those that are brought in at various intervals.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping materials stored in proper places when not in use.
  • Be punctual.
  • Conduct group activities.
  • Be able to accept the teacher as "engineer" of the classroom, realizing that as the teacher exercises authority, he/she also assumes and is accountable to other school authorities and parents for the instructional program of the room.
  • Be subject to transfer or reassignment as necessary.
  • Dress professionally.
  • Ask for clarification of policies as necessary.
  • Reproduce material as directed by the teacher.
  • Become efficient in the operation of technology in the classroom.
  • Fulfill other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the wellbeing of students.
  • Assist in duty as assigned by the principal.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students' testing, diagnosis, status and personal problems.
  • Be subject to bus monitor assignment.
  • Refer parental concerns or staff concerns to teacher, principal or special education coordinator.
  • Be subject to split teacher assignment as necessary.
  • Support the classroom teacher in delivery of instruction to the class, individual or groups of students using methods such as oral presentation, demonstration, discussion of homework assignments, answering questions.
  • Order equipment and supplies, copy materials, create bulletin boards, take attendance, and assist in the coordination of department activities.
  • Prepare materials, supplies and equipment for lessons.
  • Monitor student behavior inside and outside of classroom.
  • Attend and meet required district hours of staff development.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
