Job Title:       Special Education Aide LD

Primary Purpose:    

Qualifications: Ability to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements: Associate's Degree, 48 Semester hours, or Academic Assessment; High School Diploma or GED; Some experience in working with young children; temperament to work with handicapped children; ability to maintain effective working relationships with teacher(s), students and administrators; such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Education/Certification:

 

  • Associate's Degree, 48 Semester hours, or Academic Assessment.
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited HS or GED Program
  • Ability to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements.

Experience:

 

Major Responsibility

  • To assist in the implementation of students Intervention Educational Planning.
  • To fulfill the responsibilities of this position, the person will:
  • Exercise initiative in developing creative activities to supplement and reinforce learning;
  • Be very familiar with all materials kept in the classroom as well as those that are brought in at various intervals;
  • Assist the teacher in keeping materials stored in proper places when not in use;
  • Be punctual; Conduct group activity; Aide in the construction of teaching aides and materials; Be familiar with and able to operate audio-visual equipment;
  • Grade or to assist in grading papers and recording scores;
  • Assist the teacher in keeping orderly records;
  • Be optimistic and cheerful when working with students;
  • Exercise firm but kind control of student’s behavior, abiding by the teacher’s policy;
  • Assist in feeding ad positioning of students when necessary; share responsibility for decoration of the classroom;
  • Assist the teacher in meeting the buses when the students arrive at school and as the leave;
  • Assist in duty as assigned by the school principal;
  • Make home visits with the teacher; Assist the teacher with classroom control emphasizing courtesy and good manners;
  • Accept the teacher as the authority in the classroom;
  • Be subject to transfer or reassignment as necessary; Be subject to split teacher assignment as needed;
  • Dress appropriately; Ask for clarification of policies as necessary; Be subject to bus monitor assignment;
  • Use basic computer skills; Refer questions about the program or students in the program to the teacher;
  • Maintain confidentiality of student’s testing, diagnosis status and personal problems;
  • Assist with toileting needs including diapering when necessary;
  • Attend and meet required district hours of staff development; Professional dress is required; Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the campus principal

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
