- Master’s Degree in speech pathology
- State License for speech/language pathologist
- Certificate of Clinical Competency-SLP

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- To help reduce or eliminate speech/language disorders that interferes with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.
- To serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech impaired students.
- Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders.
- Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders.
- Assist with appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student needs and to correct existing speech or language impairments.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
- Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
- Provide in-service education and serve as consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement as needed.
- Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Maintains list of referred, screened, and eligible student, as well as a directory of outside agencies consultants, specialist, and related services.
- Provide Medicaid supervision to speech pathologists not holding ASHA certification on time per year.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
