Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

 

  • Master’s Degree in speech pathology
  • State License for speech/language pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency-SLP

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To help reduce or eliminate speech/language disorders that interferes with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.
  • To serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech impaired students.
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders.
  • Assist with appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student needs and to correct existing speech or language impairments.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  • Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Provide in-service education and serve as consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement as needed.
  • Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintains list of referred, screened, and eligible student, as well as a directory of outside agencies consultants, specialist, and related services.
  • Provide Medicaid supervision to speech pathologists not holding ASHA certification on time per year.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
