Job Title:  Part Time Speech Pathologist                                           Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to:  Special Education Supervisor                                                 Pay Grade: NA

Dept. /School:  Assigned Campus                                                            Days: 19 ½ hours per week

Supervises: Speech Pathologist Interns and/or Assistants

                                                                                                                       

Primary Purpose:    

Provide school-based speech and language services to special education students according to each Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The Speech Pathologist will support the implementation of the IEP by providing therapy sessions to students as outlined in their IEP. while exercising continuous discretion and judgment for adaptations and modifications to assist students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

 

  • Master’s Degree in speech pathology
  • State License for speech/language pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency-SLP

 

 Special Knowledge Skills:

  • Understanding of the educational model for speech therapy services
  • Ability to utilize the district special education software for student records
  • Ability to utilize iPad or other technology in therapy

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To help reduce or eliminate speech/language disorders that interferes with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.
  • To serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech impaired students.
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders.
  • Assist with appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student needs and to correct existing speech or language impairments.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  • Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Provide in-service education and serve as consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement as needed.
  • Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintains list of referred, screened, and eligible student, as well as a directory of outside agencies consultants, specialist, and related services.
  • Provide Medicaid supervision to speech pathologists not holding ASHA certification one time per year.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

If assigned an assistant you will be responsible for the following:

  • Verifying appropriate service hours provided to students.
  • Clinical log checks will be required weekly.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
