Job Title: Specialist – Communications Content Creator

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Chief Communications Officer

Pay Grade: 2

Dept./School: Communications

Term: 227 days/year

 

Primary purpose: To promote positive public relations between the school district and the community. To assist in developing, executing, and evaluating the District’s content marketing strategy, advertising campaigns, and other initiatives. Ensure brand continuity of all efforts, and alignment with overall District vision, mission, and goals of distributing pertinent information about the District and its activities, and engaging internal and external audiences.

 

Education/Certification –

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications preferred, or professional experience directly related to the job responsibilities and duties.

 

Experience –

  • Three years of journalism, communications, or marketing/public relations experience
  • Other qualifications as deemed acceptable by the superintendent

 

Special knowledge/skills –

  • strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal skills
  • analytical skills along with creative thinking
  • excellent writing, editing, and public speaking skills
  • knowledge of media relations and public relations functions
  • knowledge of digital marketing channels, market research, and analytics
  • use personal computer to design and produce district materials (print, photography and video)
  • emphasis on videography, video editing experience
  • understanding of targeted audiences
  • implement policy and procedures
  • Bilingual ability in English/Spanish preferred

 

Major responsibilities and duties –

  • Assist chief communications officer in communicating the district’s vision and mission
  • Serve as liaison between the school district and the community
  • Serve as district spokesperson and coordinate media coverage in the absence of the chief communications officer
  • Demonstrate awareness of District-community needs and initiate activities to meet thos needs
  • Assist in establishing standards for campus/department logos, fliers, business cards, email signatures, and other district publications/promotional pieces
  • Create and align materials around company brand
  • Lead development of district’s digital marketing strategy through use of video/audio platforms for staff recruitment, student enrollment and other district priorities and/or events
  • Establish performance specifications, costs and market applications
  • Assist in monitoring/measuring performance of marketing campaigns
  • Serve on district and community committees as required
  • Assist in development, use and monitoring of social media and online communications tools
  • Assist with planning and execution of district-wide events
  • Help establish and maintain unified storage of presentations, materials, photos and video
  • Facilitate the acquisition of bids/quotes from commercial printers or other vendors for a variety of services and provide oversight on production
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness

 

Policies, Reports, and Law

  • Assist the Chief Communications Officer to develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the District and articulate District goals and objectives
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the public information area
  • Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards, the Texas Education Agency code of ethics, and the National School Public Relations Association Code of Ethics

 

Budget

  • Assist with the administration of the public information budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that fund are managed prudently

 

Personnel Management

  • Assist in the development of training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of public information and marketing functions
  • Assist in recruitment and training of personnel

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

                None

 

Equipment Used – computer, digital camera and necessary accessories , video camera and necessary accessories, copier, printer

 

Conditions

                Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Walking and some outside activities necessary while covering school district events.
