Supervises: PK Children
Primary Purpose: To assist the PK teacher in carrying out classroom responsibilities by supervising students and assisting with instruction.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Ability to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements
- Some experience working with children
- Associate’s Degree, 48 semester hours, or Academic Assessment; High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge Skills:
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teacher (s) and students
Experience:
- Experience working with children helpful, but not required
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. To assist the teacher in carrying out the prescribed program for each student.
2. To fulfill the responsibilities of this position the person will: exercise initiative in developing creative activities to supplement and reinforce learning;
3. Be very familiar with all materials kept in the classroom as well as those that are brought in at various intervals;
4. Assist the teacher in keeping materials stored in proper places when not in use; be punctual; conduct group activities;
5. Aid in the construction of teaching aides and materials;
6. Be familiar with and able to operate audio-visual equipment; grade or assist in grading papers and recording scores;
7. Assist the teacher in preparing work materials, e.g., laminating, use of copy machine, typing;
8. Assist the teacher in keeping orderly files of each assist the teacher in keeping orderly files of each student’s program; be optimistic and cheerful when working with students;
9. Exercise firm but kind control of student’s behavior, abiding by the teacher’s policy;
10. Share responsibility for decoration of the classroom;
11. Assist in duty as assigned by the school principal;
12. Assist the teacher with classroom control emphasizing courtesy and good manners;
13. Able to accept the teacher as authority of the classroom, realizing that as the teacher exercises authority,
14. He/she also assumes and is accountable to other school authorities and parents for the instructional program of the room;
15. Be subject to transfer or reassignment as necessary subject to split teacher assignment as needed; dress professionally and appropriately;
16. Ask for clarification of policies as necessary;
17. Knowledge of computers would be helpful; refer questions about the program and students in the program to the teachers;
18. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the principal.
