Primary Purpose: To evaluate students referred for Special Education to determine appropriate eligibility and services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master’s Degree in Psychology
- Licensure as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
- MUST RESIDE IN TEXAS
Special Knowledge Skills:
- Ability to administer and interpret psychological, intelligence and achievement assessments for the purpose of determining Autism, Emotional Disturbance, and/or any other appropriate Special Education eligibility.
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate students for Autism and an Emotional Disturbance
- Experience with behavior intervention, manifestation determination reviews, and counseling as a related service to include functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans, and counseling assessments.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to special education
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
- Organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work compatibly within the multidisciplinary team concept
Experience:
- At least one year of experience as an LSSP/ LSSP intern
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Virtually administer approved psychological, achievement and intelligence measures, using instruments and procedures approved by the district
- Provide written comprehensive evaluation reports and recommendations for students referred for Emotional Disturbance, Autism, and/or other disabilities.
- Manage a system of comprehensive psychological assessments in accordance with rules and regulations mandated by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council and TEA.
- Virtually provide interpretation of diagnostic findings to parents and to appropriate school personnel for implementation of the IEP
- Serve in a consultative role with designated personnel to offer intervention strategies related to learning, student behavioral problems, and counseling assessments
- Maintain case records on all referred students.
- Maintain confidential eligibility records accurately and within timelines.
- Ensure that the legal files contain required documentation for monitoring and any other court requested purposes.
- Remotely assist Special Education leadership in working with teachers and parents whenever necessary regarding students with behavioral and/or social-emotional difficulties.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with teaching staff, counselors and administrators.
- Consult remotely with special education teachers and other special education staff members.
- Plan interventions.
- Conduct/Attend ARD meetings virtually concerning placement of students and the development of the IEP.
- Virtually serve as a member of the Annual Review Committee for reviewing progress of each individual student.
- Work with ECISD attorney in preparation for ARD meetings and other legal proceedings including advocacy groups and/or other legal representatives.
- Review records for transfer students and make recommendations regarding eligibility, placement, and services.
- Cooperate with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies and make appropriate referrals.
- Maintain records for purpose of Medicaid reimbursement.
- Remotely attend staff, professional, and interagency meetings.
- Complete required Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council continuing education hours.
- Provide professional development for general and special education staff.
- Stay current on all federal and state and local special education guidelines.
- Disseminate information regarding current laws and court cases that change special education practices (to multidisciplinary team members).
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May be asked to supervise LSSP interns.

- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
- May require some statewide travel.
- Maintain high speed, stable internet connection from virtual office. A laptop computer will be provided.
- Secure a designated workspace that allows for work to be conducted remotely while safeguarding student confidentiality and work-related privacy interests.
