Primary Purpose:
The Student Applications Manager is responsible for managing the staff, processes and
responsibilities of the student applications services provided by Information Systems.
The goal of the Information Systems Student Applications Manager is to provide high-
quality, timely and accurate information, products and services to district personnel at all levels in the
development and support of the student administration applications. This position has an emphasis on
production, data management, problem identification and resolution, and both long and short range
planning.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Degree in Computer Science or Information Management Systems preferred.
Special Knowledge Skills:
- Working knowledge of local, state and federal requirements for data reporting and the ability to interpret new requirements, including the PEIMS Data Standards and the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote and SharePoint
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in higher level programming languages such as Visual Basic, MS-SQL, Json, Oracle and data extraction methodologies and the ability to apply them to the needs of the student applications and processes
- Demonstrated ability to create complex reports by merging files from a variety of data sources
- Ability to use TSO, FTP, EFT, API to send and receive data
- Knowledge and experience with micro computer hardware/software
- Demonstrated experience with relational database systems and Ed-Fi standards
- Ability to read and interpret technical material and specifications
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical support and training
- Ability and temperament to adapt quickly to a technically changing environment
- Demonstrated oral and written communication/presentation skills
- Ability to work with other staff members as part of a team within a production-oriented environment

Experience:
Minimum three years professional level experience utilizing student data applications systems including but not limited to student demographic data, attendance accounting, grade reporting, scheduling, special programs, PEIMS, discipline and health services
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Directs/supervises/evaluates the work activities and performance of the student applications staff concerning documentation, training, new project initiation and testing
- Supervises the work of student applications employees engaged in developing, maintaining and modifying programs and confirms quality standards of programming and accuracy are maintained
- Determines workflow and prioritizes effectively to process multiple requests for information from all levels
- Monitors input of data, scheduling of jobs to be processed, and correction of errors for assigned applications
- Identifies and reports problems which may interfere with or impede the timely and efficient production of system jobs or state reports
- Takes initiative in performing those follow up activities and support services necessary to produce timely and accurate computerized reports and products
- Provides training and makes presentations to district employees in one-on-one as well as group sessions to enable them to properly implement and manage applications
- Monitors and reports the performance of district staff as it relates to duties of managing and using the district’s computerized information systems
- Develops, produces and maintains written documentation and training materials for areas of responsibility
- Reports and recommends changes or improvements to procedures, applications, and/or programming when needed for data collection, maintenance, and improved efficiency
- Receives frequent incoming calls from a variety of personnel on a broad range of problems and provides consultant services toward problem resolution
- Ensures the maintenance and accuracy of student data related to PEIMS and Core Collections
- Constantly increases knowledge of state & federal regulations & emerging technologies
- Maintains computerized files, headers and tables
- Performs complex reconciliation and correction tasks
- Maintains a high level of proficiency in the report writing tools supported by district software, writing and testing reports for accuracy and maintaining detailed instructions of developed programs and updates, repairs, modifies and expands existing programs
- Ensures timelines are met
- Provides technical guidance & leadership in the course of product development that ensures high quality products are developed & delivered in a timely basis
- Constantly demonstrates a proactive attitude in securing information, stays informed of applications software modifications and enhancements and anticipate customer needs and recommend solutions
- Resolves technical obstacles and provides recommended solutions
- Assists departmental budgeting
- Provides departmental leadership in the absence of the director
- Performs other duties as assigned
