Primary Purpose:
The Student Data Coordinator is expected to have superior programming skills combined with a knowledge base of Texas educational data systems. These qualifications enable this position to provide valuable mentoring to team members in the most current programming methodologies and the ability to develop procedures incorporating the efficiency of advanced technology.
The goal of the Student Data Coordinator is to provide high-quality, timely and accurate information products and services to district personnel at all levels to promote student success. This position maintains the primary database tables required for ac-hoc reporting. This position requires documented advanced programming knowledge to meet the interoperability needs of a data reliant education system.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Degree in Computer Science or Information Management Systems (required)
- Master’s Degree in computer science or information management systems or technology related field (preferred)
Special Knowledge Skills:
- Performing data and systems analysis;
- Creating and maintaining SQL databases:
- development of web-based reports; writing complex computer programs; testing; solving complex problems;
- knowledge of Operational Data Storage and data warehousing
- knowledge of Ed-Fi standard
- skills in data visualization logic and tools such as PowerBI and SSRS

Experience:
- Minimum five years professional level experience with Texas educational data systems including PEIMS and Texas student assessment data
- Minimum five years of experience with computer programming, data warehousing, testing and analysis, creating requirements specifications, report creation, and performing systems or data analysis work.
- Experience in documenting requirements, business rules, and user help information.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Analyzes user request to determine parameters of required program and if a new program must be created or if an existing program can be modified
- Designs, codes, tests, maintains, and documents highly complex computer programs based on user requests
- Prepares user and technical documentation for the implementation, support and running or new and/or modified systems
- Leads and coordinates work of others to develop, test, install and modify programs
- Leads and coordinates data interoperability projects
- Designs and develops ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) procedures for interface with Student Information Systems and other systems; Creating, expanding, and optimizing Extract Transform, Load jobs based on specifications driven by changing business requirements.
- Designs, maintains and creates a yearly Operational Data Storage
- Implementation of data visualization tool and analyzing user needs
- Assists less experienced programmers in resolution of work problems related to program specifications or programming
- Provides assistance and expertise in implementing, programming and troubleshooting systems, addressing complaints and resolving complex problems including user support
- Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other responsibilities
- Maintains a consistent, high quality customer-focused approach when conducting business and providing services or products to clients, the general public and other external customers
- Interacts with all levels of personnel in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and contributes to excellent performance
- Identifies and reports problems which may interfere with or impede the timely and efficient production of system jobs or state reports
- Takes initiative in performing those follow up activities and support services necessary to produce timely and accurate computerized reports and products
- Promotes cost-effective and prudent use of forms, supplies and processing time in the performance of duties
- Reports and recommends changes or improvements to procedures, applications, and/or programming when needed for data collection, maintenance, and improved efficiency
- Integral review data for accuracy of required state and federal reporting
- Maintains historical records electronically by documenting program development and revisions
- Resolves technical obstacles & provides recommended solutions
- Performs other duties as assigned

Travels independently (local and overnight) to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Periodically works after normal duty hours and occasional weekends or holidays to meet project deadlines.
