Job Title: High School Athletic Trainer Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director of Athletics Pay Grade: Admin Pay 4
Dept. /School: Athletics Days: 207 and 217
Supervises: Assigned staff
Primary Purpose: To safeguard student athletes by providing a safe environment for athletic participation along with supporting district goals by implementing the human growth and development curriculum to students at the designated grade level of course.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Texas Athletic Trainer License
- Bachelor’s degree
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Care and prevention of athletic injuries with junior high and high school student athletes.
- Keep injury reports, birth certificates, parent approvals, parent releases, medical forms, medical records, insurance, and participation forms.
- Mail reports to the doctors, insurance companies, parents and others as needed.
- Supervision of student athletes under doctor’s orders.
- Inventory and issue athletic equipment.
- Work cooperatively with other district trainers regarding the purchasing of medical supplies and trainer’s equipment.
- Inventory training room supplies.
- Supervise washing of all athletic equipment.
- Work cooperatively with other district trainers to prepare and operate budget for supplies and equipment.
- Work within established procedures and rapport with team physician(s).
- Supervise physical examinations for all athletes.
- Work hand in hand with the coaches of all sports.
- Work cooperatively with other district trainers for all phases of training and preparation for student managers and trainers.
- Implement, evaluate and monitor human growth and development program.
- Utilize effective teaching strategies which reflect current and research based instructional methodologies of human growth and development program.
- Coordinate human growth and development program components with Director of Health Services, PE and Health Coordinator, and the Exec. Director of Athletics.
- Work cooperatively with members of the Student Health Advisory Council in curriculum development and implementation.
- Organize meetings to provide parents the opportunity to view and discuss the curriculum.
- Utilize educational techniques that account for different learning styles.
- Promote family involvement in the educational process through designated activities and homework.
- Work cooperatively with building principal and staff in meeting state requirements for the human growth and development program.
- Provide for the fulfillment of State required CPR training for all students.
- Work cooperatively with other district trainers regarding student care, event coverage, all documentation and staff development.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics.
Equipment Used: Washer and Dryer, defibrillator, and other athletic and training room equipment.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
